Ottawa Watercolour Society Show starts this weekend

The Ottawa Watercolour Society will be holding their 67th Juried Show at St. Brigids Centre for the Arts, 314 St. Patrick Street, Ottawa, Ontario (Cumberland Entrance).
The show will be open daily from 12-5pm April 27th until May 5th, 2013.

The Vernissage will be held on Saturday April 27th, between 2:00 PM and 4:00PM. I won't be able to attend as I am working weekends for the CHEO foundation. When i signed up for that job I had forgotten about all the shows i was in this spring. There seems to have been one every weekend. Thank heavens I don't have to attend them all.  Here is the poster for the show that opens tomorrow;

First Place at the Ottawa Orchid Show! Yippee!

The following drawing of mine got First place in the Drawings Category at the Ottawa Orchid Show last weekend!

There was some fantastic artwork there, I was so surprised when I saw a red ribbon on my drawing. This is a Pink lady Slipper, a wild orchid that grows in the Torboulton Forest in Constance Bay. Finding these in the woods in the spring is like finding a surprise present!
I also submitted a watercolor painting of a group of Calypsos - we used to call these Lady Slippers but Calypso is the common name. They grow in Banff National Park and have the sweetest perfume!

 This one is an orchid that my daughter Nicky has, one night when I visited her she had a candle lit beside it and I wanted to capture the effect of the light on the flower and the pot.
I was cursing myself for entering when i am so busy with 2 part time jobs and an art class and a show every weekend until mid May. I was framing these the afternoon that they had to be delivered! But, in the end, I was really glad I did enter. It's not everyday you get a red ribbon! It really encourages me to paint more.
